2. What: Art display in the Haywood County Public Library in
Waynesville. Display will support the upcoming program “Together
We Read”. Please read short description of the program below.

ABOUT TOGETHER WE READ

Together We Read is Western North Carolina’s reading program,
established in 2002.   It promotes reading, community discussion,
and the appreciation of heritage through the choice of a commonly
read book and the production of popular events associated with it.

Every year, site participants and the general public choose a work
of literature that the whole region reads, and which pertains to the
region’s heritage.  This becomes the Together We Read
homegrown pick, celebrated in the summer and fall.

The current TWR pick is “On Agate Hill” by Lee Smith.

Over 100 sites in 21 counties are involved in the program—from
schools that incorporate the book into their curricula to towns in
which organizations collaborate to create a cultural happening—
and the number is growing.  Together We Read is a non-profit
corporation, funded locally and governmentally.  For more
information, visit www.togetherweread.org or phone 768-BOOK.

What kind of display?

We are trying to compliment one of the themes in the book “On
Agate Hill” which is collecting ephemera and how it tells the story of
our lives. I want to display various items in shadow boxes along with
a short description of what they are, what they mean….etc. We can
be quite creative with this and of course the boxes can be for sale. I
would love to exploit the traditions of the mountains and mountain
culture in these boxes.

When: The Kick-off for TWR is September 30th so I would like to try
to have the display up by September 16th.

More Details: How many? I would like at least 10 boxes, no more
than 15. We are going to provide the boxes for you, and you can
decorate and fill them it however you would like. Use your creativity
to create the boxes, if you are not comfortable writing the stories to
go with the boxes I believe I can get a local writer to assist us with
this.

Please call me if you have any questions about what I have in mind
or how this will work, it is in the early planning stages.
