GRASSROOTS GRANTS

The  Grassroots  Grant Program  provides  financial support for  Haywood  County-based
community and nonprofit organizations that produce programs and projects that enhance
the arts for county residents.

Applications  will be evaluated based on  artistic merit, benefit  to audience or participants,
involvement of racially and culturally diverse participants as appropriate to the project, and
organizational strengths.

The  Grassroots Grants  program,  administered  by  the state of North  Carolina,  provides
the Haywood County Arts Council, a Designated County Partner (DCP), a grant to be used
for artistic programming. The Arts Council retains 50% of this money for internal programs
such as the Sunday Series, Swannanoa Chamber Music Festival, Arts in the Schools, and
other  programs.    The  remaining  50%  is  distributed  to  qualifying  organizations  within
Haywood County that work to promote the arts.

Subgrantee organizations must be a 501(c)(3) with two years of operation to qualify.



PROJECT GRANTS FOR REGIONAL ARTISTS

Both individual artists and small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists  (i.e., guitar
duo,jazz quartet,  bluegrass band) are eligible.  An artist must have residence in the region
for  at  least  one year  to  be eligible.  Previous RAPG  recipient s must  wait 2 years  before
being eligible to reapply.


The  Haywood  County Arts  Council  and the  State of  North Carolina are pleased to  issue
these grants and to support these artistic projects within Haywood County.


This grant is a collaboration between the Haywood  County Arts Council, the Arts Council of  
Henderson County, the Tryon Fine Arts Center and the Transylvania Community Arts Council.

The Haywood County Arts Council announces the availability of funds to arts organizations
for projects taking place in fiscal 2010-2011 in Haywood County. Grassroots Subgrants  is
a program of  the North Carolina Arts  Council and is  administered locally by the Haywood
County Arts Council which serves as the designated county partner.

Grassroots  grants  are  matching  grants  that  must  be  matched  dollar  for  dollar  by  the
receiving organization.   Application  is by letter  describing  the organization and  the project,
along  with  a  budget  for   the  project,  and  the   signatures  of parties  responsible  for  the
organization.  The project must be  relevant to the  arts at the  community level. Credit must
be   given  to   the  North  Carolina  Arts  Council  and  the  Haywood  County Arts Council in
all printed information  or news releases.  A final report is required  at the completion of  the
project.

Organizations  that  received  funds  totaling  nearly  $10,000 from the Haywood County Arts
Council  for  the  2009-2010  year include: Haywood Community Band, Haywood  Regional
Arts  Theatre, Haywood  Community   Chorus,   Voices   in    the   Laurel   Children’s   Choir,  
Central Elementary   School,   Riverbend   Elementary    School,   and    Haywood  Christian
Academy.

Applications are encouraged from all areas  of Haywood County in all disciplines  of the arts.
Applications  will  be  accepted  through  June 30, 2010.   Haywood County Arts  Council is  
hosting  a Grassroots  Arts Program  Grant  Workshop  on  June 1, 2010  at  6:30pm,  at the
Haywood County Arts Council, 86 N. Main St., Waynesville, NC 28786. Interested applicants
are encouraged to participate so we may assist you in preparing your grants.

When  all  applications  have  been  gathered   the  Grassroots  Grants  Committee  of  the
Haywood  County  Arts Council  will  meet to  award  available  funds.  Funds  are  typically
disbursed in the fall and in late winter.
