“Painting, whether it is oil-based, acrylic or watercolor, is the act of creating an unspoken
dialogue with the viewer. As the first-person voice in the conversation, I begin by gathering source materials, such as photos, drawing, sketches, observations of the scene, etc., being careful for good composition and perspective. I then go about the task of putting a scene down on paper. Along the way, I emphasize certain elements and remove certain elements…. “the artist always controls the end
result. I communicate with my viewer in this unspoken dialogue. I research my subject matter meticulously. I sketch and paint en-plein air.
I strongly believe that good drawing skills are the most important tool an artist has in his or her toolbox. I present my portfolio in galleries, in juried shows and in plein-air events. In so doing, I have the pleasure of meeting a lot of talented artists, judges and artist critiques, which helps me grow in my skills.
I have a diverse background in design and marketing. I have degree in Fine Arts and a career in graphic design, print production and book publishing. I continue to grow in my career by my memberships in the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, in the Florida Watercolor Society
and in plein-air experiences in Haywood and Buncombe counties.
I take great pleasure in handing one of my paintings to a new customer all the time.”
