The Mountaineer

Join an exclusive Night Before Studio Tour event from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, to meet and hear two Haywood Arts Council artists and Canton natives, Lisa Conard and Cheryl Summey, hosted by Canton’s Southern Porch.

Event goers will enjoy food and drink provided by Southern Porch, plus paint a mini-quilt block, experience live music from JAM’s Travis Stuart and Maddy Mullany — and participate in an in-depth discussion with artists, Lisa Conard and Cheryl Summey.

Conard, a Bethel resident, draws inspiration from nature in her clay work.

“The centering, forming, drying and firing really tell the story of our own lives,” she wrote on the Arts Council web site.

Summey has a “deep passion” for working in sterling silver and copper to create distinctive pieces of jewelry. She studied the art of silversmithing under the direction of Sherri Burch, owner of Studio 3 School of Jewelry Arts.

“Another aspect of inspiration is my Native American heritage and the southwestern design techniques,” Summey wrote.
