Laura Walkingstick is an Eastern Band of Cherokee artist from Cherokee, North Carolina, whose work is deeply rooted in the Appalachian Mountains and the cultural traditions of her community. Inspired by personal memories, Cherokee storytelling, the natural world, and the resilience of Indigenous people, she creates artwork that explores healing, identity, connection, and belonging. Her work invites viewers to reflect on the stories carried through both people and place.
Walkingstick works in cornhusks, ceramics, fibers, mixed media, and beadwork, choosing materials that reflect both traditional knowledge and contemporary artistic expression.
